About Sports Card Collecting — History, Collecting & Investing

The original trading-card hobby
Sports cards are where trading-card collecting began, and in Europe the scene is booming — led by football (soccer), the largest non-US card market in the world. Basketball, Formula 1 and more round out a fast-growing market fuelled by rookies, chase parallels, and major events like the 2026 World Cup.
Why collect graded sports cards?
A graded slab authenticates a card, locks in its condition, and makes high-value cards easy to trust and resell. Demand concentrates on rookie cards, autographs, numbered parallels and iconic players — and a Gem Mint grade can multiply a card's value. In football, Topps Chrome UEFA Champions League and Panini Prizm are the premium formats to watch; basketball follows the NBA's global reach, and F1 has surged since Drive to Survive.

Why invest?
Football is the fastest-growing segment of the global sports-card market, with a truly worldwide buyer base. Scarce, high-grade cards of generational players — Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappé, Yamal, Wembanyama — are where the durable value sits.
