What is the Pokémon Trading Card Game?
Launched in Japan in 1996 and in the West in 1999, the Pokémon Trading Card Game is the most collected card game in the world. What began as a children's game alongside the video games and anime has grown into one of the largest collectibles markets on the planet — spanning nostalgic adult collectors, competitive players, and a new generation of investors.
A brief history
The original Base Set introduced the cards that now define vintage collecting — first-edition holos like Charizard are among the most valuable trading cards ever made. Over the following decades the game evolved through countless eras and sets, and in the modern Scarlet & Violet era it introduced the alternate-art and Special Illustration Rare cards that drive today's chase. The 30th Anniversary (2026) marked the franchise with milestone, all-foil commemorative sets.

Why collect Pokémon cards?
Grading authenticates a card, locks in its condition on a 1–10 scale, and seals it in a tamper-evident slab — protecting the card and giving buyers and sellers a shared standard of quality. Collectors chase iconic Pokémon (Charizard, Umbreon, Pikachu), beautiful alternate arts, and scarce low-population cards. A Gem Mint 10 can be worth many times a raw copy of the same card.
Why invest?
Pokémon anchors the entire trading-card market, and grading demand has hit record highs year after year — led overwhelmingly by Pokémon. The durable value sits in scarce, iconic, high-grade cards. As with any collectible the market moves, and most cards don't appreciate; but the best cards have performed strongly, and a slab protects and authenticates your investment. Collect what you love, buy quality, and treat appreciation as a bonus.
